Another route that appears to work well is to right click on the computer icon on your desktop and then click properties. Go down to the bottom of the page to the area where it says windows product ID and then click on the "change product key" link and then re-enter your product ID. It may take a minute or two but if you have a valid key then your copy of Windows should successfully activate itself. This worked very well for me, I hope it works for you as well.
